Hello, photographers, videographers, artists and digital image enthusiasts, This is a notice and reminder that the Digital Image Group will be meeting Thursday evening of this week at 6:30 P.M. in Downtown Douglasville and you are invited to attend! This month we will be trying out a NEW MEETING SPACE at the Douglasville School of Art, located in beautiful Downtown Douglasville at 6774 West Broad Street, Douglasville, GA. If you know where Fabiano’s and Gumbeaux’s Restaurants are, it is on up the street from there about 2 blocks heading away from Atlanta. You may visit the Douglasville School’s website at http://www.douglasvilleschoolofart.com . You may park anywhere along Broad Street, or on one of the side streets, or in the public parking space across from City Hall (which will require that you walk a block and a half to the location). The best way to describe where this is, is to imagine yourself standing in front of the Old Courthouse. Just to the right of this building, is the oldest building in downtown. The very first storefront in that building is where we will meet. We do not have a lot of chairs in there yet, so if you have a folding chair, please bring it. This is a new adventure for DIG and our mission Thursday evening is to determine if this is the right place for us to move our meetings to. We are also investigating the possibility of having the Sweetwater Camera Club meetings here as well. My wife Norma and I have made a tentative arrangement with Dr. Robbie Pope for our group to meet there free of charge. In return we are going to help him get his website updated and recreated and help to publicize the Douglasville School of Art. Gene Spicer has been very helpful in securing this new meeting space for us. We will need some very large curtains to cover the huge 11 ft. high windows there, and a permanent solution to seating and tables. We need your thoughts on how to make the most of this opportunity. Dr. Pope has offered to let us set up our own gallery in this grand space as well. What we like most about this is that the space is independent of both religious and government organizations and is adaptable for people of all ages. Further, it brings us into the historic downtown area, and that is good for Douglasville. This is located in the oldest building in this area. This first meeting will be fun . . . even if you show up just for curiosity’s sake, you will find that it is an interesting experience. The art studio has very high ceilings, at least 14 feet, and the atmosphere can only be described as “artsy.” Bring some of your work to show, if you like. I recently worked with Larry Hunter of Rooms To Go, along with Jerry Frost of the Douglas County Film Commission in creating a 2 minute video promoting Sealy Posturepedic’s new ad campaign. This video has been entered into a $10,000 contest, and I have no idea what chance it has of winning, but you might enjoy it. It is appropriately silly, since they asked for entries to be “humorous.” We will be showing it at DIG. Thank you to all of you who have shown your work off and on over the past 3 years. It is quite amazing what different kinds of subject matter and techniques keep this group humming. By the way, our new meeting space has several rooms, and is quite an inspiring place to hang out. It also has great potential for becoming a software/computer training center. Come take a look! Bring your own chair if you can. There will be several seats for those who arrive without one, so it’s O.K. if you don’t have one for any reason. Drinks will be provided. Hope to see you there! Thank you Dr. Pope! Richard |
