Tonight at the Digital Image Group meeting at St. Julian’s Episcopal Church, Bob Smith, one of our members and a long time producer for the Cultural Arts Council here in Douglasville, will give a special presentation showing how he uses GR2 Analyst Weather Tracking software to track storms and other atmospheric and weather phenomena in real time, as they happen. The software creates digital imagery and video as it maps the energy levels in storms and shows the path of tornadoes as they touch down. Such software is useful in watching the conditions that lead up to severe weather. The website for GR2 Analyst states: “with this unprecedented visualization capability, you will see storm structures develop and be able to predict when and where severe  weather will impact the ground.”

Here are a couple of the images Bob has sent.

If you are interested in this technology and how your weatherperson knows so much in advance, don’t miss this. It is the same type of meteorology forecasting imagery available to weather personnel on local Atlanta TV stations. More information about this software is available at http://www.grlevelx.com/gr2analyst/ .

The Digital Image Group is far more than a group of photographers showing pictures. We have quite a range of demonstrations and information to share every month. Tonight’s feature presentation is a great example of how advanced digital imaging and visualization sciences help us learn about the earth to saving lives, protect property and plan for future events.

Bob says, “My focus will be with the supercell thunderstorm that moved near Fairplay and up over downtown Douglasville last Friday night.” Wherever you live, you can’t get away from the weather . . .

If you ever contemplated being a storm spotter, perhaps you should look into this . . . hope to see you there!
