Hey there, Digital Image Group members and people interested in image making . . .

This is a brief reminder that this next Thursday at 6:30 at St. Julian’s here in Douglasville is our 6th DIG meeting ever. Whether you have images or videos to show the group, please remember that most of all this is a discussion group that is aimed at enhancing your Visual Education. The priority is to come be part of an ongoing parade of presentations given by digital artists at random. You don’t have to bring pictures to enjoy an entire evening of demonstrations, digital slide shows, videos and discussions of the ongoing issues in the digital visual arts. Last month I was worried that there weren’t going to be enough people with images to show to fill up the evening, but we still went on for 3 hours.

My time is limited this morning but I would at least like to point you to some of my own digital image work this month. The idea of DIG  is to stimulate you to get out and create new stuff, to ask yourself, “where am I in my visual journey?” and “what am I doing this month, this week to move further along with my talents and appreciation for the visual arts?”

So, to give you my own example, this month I have been working more with digital video. The work I am doing is not professionally polished because of equipment issues including things I don’t know yet. My tripod isn’t a fluid head tripod needed for steady motion control. I’m still reading my video camera manual and learning to wrestle with Pinnacle Studio for video editing. But you will see that what I am doing is combining what I know about photography and Photoshop with things I am learning about video. So, while you have an Internet connection, go take a look at the website Norma and I are creating called www.douglaspix.com . There you will see some of the “digital imagery” we are working with, including the galleries of pictures for the Chamber of Commerce, the Cultural Arts Council and eventually for Douglas County. You can contribute to these galleries too and get a photo credit.

On the front page of www.douglaspix.com  right now are 3 music videos I’ve created in the past month. I’m struggling with the optimal size for video over the web. Let me know which size/which article works best for you! If you like bluegrass music, there’s a treat for you on there.

If you attended September Saturdays here in Douglasville and would like to contribute some of your images to this DouglasPix site, please let me know. Send me some or give them to me on a disk at the DIG meeting.

Wes Tallon, the Communications Director for Douglas County would like for any and all of you to begin attending a variety of events in Douglas County and submit pictures. He and Linda Britt who is president of the Douglas County Arts Guild have been discussing possibly having a show at the courthouse next fall entitled “Autumn in Douglas County.” But we can talk about that more at the meeting on Thursday.

So, remember, come to the meeting whether you have images and videos and demonstrations to give or not. Watch the presentations. Gain a better appreciation for all the wonderful things visual communicators around you are doing. Get ready for the show!! You will receive at least one or two more reminders from me this week as I prepare the minutes from last month.
