Matilda's Story by Charles Phaneuf

Charles Phaneuf and his wife Rachel created this PowerPoint presentation for their club, the Cherokee Rose Quilters Guild here in Douglas County, GA.

Matilda the Goose is in search of a "Fat Quarter" which is a term quilters use to describe a way of cutting fabric in order to get the most out of a piece of cloth. She sets out on a shopping spree with her ducky friends resulting in some interesting photographs . . . or did the photographs that Charles made result in this story? You can learn more about "fat quarters" at: http://quilting.about.com/od/stepbystepquilting/ss/fat_quarters.htm.

As an experiment used Pinnacle Studio 11, a video editing program, to compose some royalty free background music to add to the Phaneuf's show. After struggling a long while to marry the music to the story, I eventually let PowerPoint handle the background music rather than adding it through the Flash conversion program which claimed to have that feature.

To convert this presentation to a Flash format in order to place it here on the web. I used a program called "iSpring Pro 3" which is a PowerPoint-to-Flash converter that was given away a few months ago through GiveAwayOfTheDay.com. I'm not sure why the program costs so much ($249) because it seems to have only one trick, that of exporting PowerPoint presentations to Flash for websites. An alternative to that which is free might be to install "Open Office" and open the PowerPoint presentation there, then export it as a Flash movie.
